About Spoonbread Bistro

Spoonbread Bistro blends Southern cuisine with European accents in a modern, casual atmosphere.  Boasting unique dishes such as the Pork Sriracha and Collard Green Egg Rolls and the Cat Sea Pig, Spoonbread Bistro has become a Richmond destination.  This summer Spoonbread expanded its reach in the Richmond area and opened a second location in Short Pump on Lauderdale Drive; Spoonbread Deux.

The concept of Spoonbread was developed by Chef Micheal Hall from his love of Southern cuisine.  Chef Hall has fond memories of his grandmother, mother, and aunts cooking spoonbread.  For this reason, for Chef Hall Spoonbread means comfort, love, and family.  His vision for the restaurant marries elevated cuisine with his southern comfort food background.  Spoonbread Bistro creates a relaxed environment where all diners are welcomed like family.

Interested in experiencing additional chef-inspired dishes, Spoonbread offers a chef’s tasting for $85.00 per person with wine pairings.  Through the chef’s tasting, diners have the opportunity to experience dishes that are currently inspiring the chefs.  The chefs tasting uses many locally sourced and fresh seasonal ingredients.  Reservations are required.

Spoonbread Deux has two private dining rooms perfect for hosting events.  The rooms can be reserved separately or together for a larger party.  Reservations for holiday parties are currently available by emailing events@spoonbreadbistro.com.

One of the many highlights of Spoonbread Deux is the beautiful well-appointed bar.  There is Happy Hour at the bar Monday-Friday from 5:00pm-7: 00pm offering a selection of beer, wine, and cocktails.

Spoonbread Deux is open for dinner Monday-Thursday from 5:00-10:00, Fridays and Saturdays from 5:00-11:00 and Sundays from 5:00-9:00.  Brunch is served on Sundays from 11:15 to 2:30.

Chef Michael Hall

Chef Michael Hall (The Vine, M Bistro and Wine Bar) brings his unique blend of Southern cuisine with French finishings to Spoonbread Bistro. Part of a renaissance for the Church Hill native, the restaurant has quickly become one of Richmond’s most highly-rated destinations for locals in Richmond’s Historic Fan neighborhood and for those throughout the Richmond region.

Spoonbread Bistro celebrates fine food in a casual chic environment housed in a charming corner location, with elements of exposed brick, rich wood and copper accents that carry throughout the two-story space. An intimate bar serves specialty cocktails while the dining room below is appointed with celadon chairs and leather banquettes. Other features include beautiful custom inlaid glass and warm lighting.

The menu features several dishes which have gained a loyal following including Chef Hall favorites Cat Sea Pig, Smoked Duck, and Sea Bass along with inviting appetizers, two of which Washington Post food critic Tom Sietsema called “two enchantments on the menu,” our Pork and Collard Green Rolls and the Lobster Pop Tart. Desserts include rich Bread Pudding with Bourbon sauce and a Skillet Chocolate Cake served a la mode.

Spoonbread Bistro is open Monday-Saturday for dinner service and for Sunday Brunch service. We also host special events and provide carryout service.
